I wish I could have cut back on the red though but I needed the 5/4s as filler. I could have probably had two more Icehide Trolls without giving up too much snow but I took off color lands instead since I was so worried about getting enough. OTOH, I never played the latter for more than five mana (2 angels) as it was always in my opening hand. It's not like people could play around Battle of Frost and Fire (Masked Vandals survive it as "giants" lol) or Starnheim Unleashed. But screw it, it worked, it's my first time winning out. It's probably the worst possible version of the deck, where I'm splashing white and black for single cards. I'm guessing the penalty is mostly tiebreakers to people with similar K/D ratios go strongly towards people with more games under their belt (rather than tie breakers having something to do with what specific players you beat like in tournaments beating someone who is highly ranked isn't worth more than someone in Bronze 4, afaict, although stream viewers seem to insist it's a thing). Obviously it's a bell curve and progressively steeper towards the edge I'm on but I do wonder how playing as few games as humanly possible in ranked is hurting me since I fall 100 spots per day no matter what. It's weird watching Hoogland bounce in and out of the top 1200 playing terrible decks and conceding after game 1s when you evidently need a 3:1 kill/death ratio to tread water near the top. I don't think they had any removal besides 4 Bonecrushers and a few Redcap Melees though so I think it's better to be a burn deck in Historic than an Anax/Embercleave deck over all. Fortunately it was still more than enough goblins but playing like that throws games away. I was dumb in game 3: I attacked with a Goblin Chieftain with my squad of 30 goblins into a Fervent Champion with a Torbran in play because obviously the THREE first strike would kill Chief and debuff the entire squad. There's another backdrop that I can't find footage of anymore, some sort of low rez swamp, that I think used to be part of a tutorial/new player experience.įor some reason, the one I have labeled Rivals of Ixalan is no longer in the rotation afaict. Throne of Eldraine (there's a xmas variant) Guilds of Ravnica (there's a xmas variant) Tournament backdrop (it's been in the game as long as I've played) * I started up bot games with Sparky to see if the backgrounds are tied to cards in your deck after conceding, I got a "did you have fun in this match?" survey.īoards that I know in order of set "age" (the Amonkhet one is chronologically late as it was released with Remastered, not the alpha test): * When I went back to look at the Alpha trailers for Arena, the oldest one I saw was for Ixalan (Jungle) theme. * I do know some people hate the Amonkhet one with the blowing sand but I kinda love it, despite the sound being normalized too loud (sound effects for cards, too!) * I think snow lands were more plentiful in my player draft than in my bot one so I don't think the bots are treating them like guildgates. I guess Historic only uses rotated backdrops as well? Why wasn't a Kaladesh backdrop ever made? * Since I've only played Historic, today is the very first day I've even seen the new background in person. It ain't no joke, especially when the mana powers up Boasts. I lost to the guy playing Ox and then the Plow though. Very profitable draft in terms of cards I wanted with two Pathways, dragon, and Realmwalker. I never had any trouble casting it and went 6-3. But with the Darkbore Pathway, a RG Snow dual, and the Horizon Seeker, I said screw it, I'm playing the damn thing. Pack 3 I opened a Goldspan Dragon and couldn't pass it in good conscience. First picked Realmwalker because I thought it would be fun and I wanted to be in green (because green) and hoped to stay out of black (widely hailed as the worst color in Kaldheim?), but I had a second pick Harald Unites the Elves so the writing was on the wall, despite later realizing that white was wide open from that direction.
